Why I Use a Spider Holster as a Wedding Photographer: a review
Mary Edelkind
Tired of your harness hurting your back and shoulders? Struggling to find a dual camera system to hold your cameras? When I first started wedding photography I did not realize how carrying 2 cameras would affect my body and workflow. I run 2 separate cameras with 2 separate lenses when I am shooting a wedding. Switching to the Spider Holster system really changed the course of my photography. Here is my Spider holster review for photographers.
What is a Spider Holster?

A Spider Holster is a waist holster that provides a dual hands-free system. This holster system takes the weight off your back, shoulders, and neck to help with strain from harnesses. The belt comes with 2 plates for the dual system and an adjustable velcro strap. I currently use the V2(link below). The new V3 just came out, and I do like the sleek design. The V2 is still a very functional design.
Helpful tips for the Spider Belt:
- Dual or Single Belt (comes with 1 or 2 plates).
- DSLR or Mirrorless (different plate mounts).
Spider Holster Review for Photographers pros and cons:
- Pros:
- Fast-access
- Hands-free
- Feels secure
- Less strain on back, neck, and shoulders
- Comfortable design
- Single or double holster option
- Cons:
- Not ideal for sitting
- Takes time to get used to
- Feels bulky occasionally
- Higher investment than a dual harness system

What It Looks Like During a Real Shoot
Moving Quickly Without Missing Moments
I am a Sydney and Atlanta based wedding photographer. A lot of the moments I’m capturing happen once and are gone. There’s no pause, no redo, no time to adjust gear. It is difficult for dual straps to dangle or get tangled especially when you need to move quickly. Having my cameras in the same spot every time allow my muscle memory to quickly switch between cameras as needed. The Spider Belt has a quick-release mode which does not lock the plate into the belt allowing for fast release.
Why I Switched From Camera Straps
I used to shoot with a camera strap because that’s what most photographers start with. But once I began shooting more consistently, especially longer sessions and weddings, it stopped working for me.
Between the strain on my neck and the camera constantly moving around, I felt like I was always adjusting instead of just shooting. It made everything feel less fluid in my flow and movements.
Final Thoughts: Is it worth it?
Switching to the Spider Belt was 110% worth it. It changes the way I move and shoot; it helps me stay ready for weddings or events. I feel less limited than a traditional strap or dual harness. The change had a real impact with strain on my neck, shoulders, and back as well. As i conclude my spider holster review for photographers, I have to say it is well worth the purchase.
